Engineering, fabrication, assembly, testing and project execution

The LARS (Launch and Recovery System) was developed and manufactured by Kverneland Aqua as a complete turnkey solution for the safe deployment and recovery of subsea sonar buoys in demanding offshore environments.

The project included the engineering, fabrication, machining, hydraulic integration, electrical installation, assembly, functional testing and documentation of a complete skid-mounted system. Designed specifically for Allton’s operational requirements, the system provides a compact, reliable and operator-friendly solution capable of efficient launch and recovery operations.

From concept through final testing, every stage of the project was completed in-house. Particular emphasis was placed on mechanical robustness, ease of maintenance, offshore reliability and compliance with customer specifications. The finished system demonstrates Kverneland Aqua’s capability to deliver complex engineered equipment combining mechanical, hydraulic and electrical disciplines into a single integrated solution.

LARS – Launch and Recovery System

Scoope Of Work

Kverneland Aqua was responsible for the complete delivery of the LARS package, including engineering, procurement, fabrication, machining, assembly, hydraulic and electrical integration, testing and commissioning preparation.

The system was developed to provide safe and efficient launch and recovery of sonar buoys while minimizing operator workload and maximizing operational reliability in offshore conditions.

Mechanical Engineering & Fabrication

Complete structural fabrication of the skid, rotating pedestal, boom system, lifting mechanism and supporting structures. All welded components were manufactured, assembled and inspected according to offshore quality standards.

Precision Machining & Assembly

Manufacture and installation of precision-machined components, bearings, pivot points and structural interfaces to ensure accurate alignment, smooth operation and long service life.

Hydraulic & Electrical Integration

Complete installation of the hydraulic power unit (HPU), cylinders, hydraulic pipework, electrical control cabinet, sensors, remote-control interface and operator control station.

Drive System Modernisation

The winch received upgraded drive components, including a new hydraulic motor, new valve block and refurbishment of the gearbox assembly. Brake components were replaced and inspected to ensure reliable operation during offshore deployment.

Functional Testing & Verification

Comprehensive internal testing and customer witness testing were carried out to verify system functionality, hydraulic performance, safety functions, operating envelope and recovery capability before delivery.

Documentation & Offshore Readiness

Preparation of complete project documentation including operating manuals, maintenance manuals, crew training manuals, engineering drawings, inspection records and quality documentation to support installation and offshore operation.
