Hydraulic Cylinder Overhaul for Offshore Drilling Operations

Hydraulic cylinders are critical components in offshore lifting and handling systems, where reliability and predictable performance are essential for safe operations. During a planned SPS (Special Periodic Survey), Kverneland Aqua was contracted to overhaul a twin-cylinder assembly for Transocean Spitsbergen, restoring functionality and extending service life before the equipment returned to operation. The work was carried out at Kverneland Aqua’s workshop in Sandnes and completed within a five-day maintenance window.

The project included complete cylinder disassembly, replacement of seal kits, inspection of internal and external components, procurement of replacement parts, reassembly, testing and preparation for offshore service.

Scoope Of Work

Offshore hydraulic cylinders are subjected to high loads, repeated duty cycles and harsh environmental conditions. Maintenance activities therefore require a structured approach to inspection, component traceability and quality control. Even relatively straightforward seal replacement campaigns demand careful handling, dimensional verification and attention to sealing surfaces to ensure long-term reliability after reinstallation.

Hydraulic Cylinder Overhaul

Complete disassembly, inspection, refurbishment and reassembly of offshore hydraulic cylinders.

Seal Replacement

Replacement of critical sealing components to restore operational integrity.

Mechanical Inspection

Assessment of wear surfaces, rod condition and cylinder interfaces.

Offshore Equipment Refurbishment

Restoration of equipment intended for continued offshore service.
